Native candidate wants shot at replacing Janklow
Friday, December 12, 2003

Terry Begay, a Navajo and Sioux from South Dakota, wants to run as an Independent candidate in the special U.S. House election that will be held June 1, 2004.

Begay ran as a Libertarian in the 2002 campaign. He lost to Bill Janklow (R), who is resigning due to his conviction of felony manslaughter.

Begay also trailed behind Democrat Stephanie Herseth in the 2002 election. Herseth is an early favorite in the special election.
