Tigua Tribe's political contributions drop
Thursday, December 11, 2003

The Tigua Tribe of Texas hasn't made any political contributions ever since state and federal authorities shut down the tribe's casino.

According to The El Paso Times, the tribe gave $92,000 to the Republican National Party and to Congressional committees in the past three years. A tribal spokesperson says money has stopped flowing.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the major parts of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA). In a 5-4 decision, the justices upheld the ban on "soft money" donations and rules limiting "issue ads" during campaign season.
