Chickasaw astronaut says Natives linked to space
Tuesday, December 9, 2003

NASA Commander John B. Herrington, a member of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma, spoke to students at the University of Wyoming on Friday.

Herrington said it is natural for Native Americans to become involved in space exploration. "There is a natural connection between how you grew up in your culture and how you apply that to scientific exploration," he said, The Casper Star-Tribune reported.

Herrington flew on the Space Shuttle Endeavour a year ago. He traveled to the International Space Station.
