First Nation first in B.C. to enter oil business

The Fort Nelson First Nation is the first in British Columbia to own and operate its own oil-drilling rig.

The band entered into an agreement with Ensign on Tuesday. The agreement calls for the band to pay half the cost of an $8 million rig. The band will share in 50 percent of revenues.
