Janklow manslaughter trial begins in S.D.
Monday, December 1, 2003

Jury selection begins today in the felony manslaughter trial of Rep. Bill Janklow, former governor of South Dakota.

Janklow is accused of causing the death of motorcyclist Randy Scott on August 16. Janklow was speeding when he ran a stop sign and hit Scott. The prosecution has to show that Janklow acted with a "conscious disregard," legal experts say.

The trial is expected to last five days but could be extended if necessary. The proceedings are taking place in Flandreau.
