Tribal leaders discuss Indian student enrollment

Tribal leaders from Arizona, New Mexico and California met at Northern Arizona University recently for a symposium on Indian student enrollment and retention.

NAU has the highest Indian student population outside of Oklahoma and awards the most master's degrees to Indian students. But only half of the Indian students come back after their freshman year.

Tribal leader discussed the reasons for low student retention rates. Some said Indian students are unprepared and lack a support system.
