Kickapoo Tribe's ex-health director indicted
Friday, November 21, 2003

The former health services director for the Kickapoo Tribe of Texas was arrested on Thursday on charges of stealing and money laundering.

Maricela Mendoza, 48, is being held without bond. He is accused of stealing $260,000 from the tribe and laundering $30,000 in checks.

Mendoza, who is non-Indian, was part of a group of former tribal officials and former employees who were ousted by tribal members. Federal authorities say other indictments of the group are possible.
