The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin will announce its purchase of ancestral land in New York today.

The tribe has bought 250 acres in Verona and 84 acres in the Catskills. The land in Verona is near the casino owned by the New York-based Oneida Nation. The land in the Catskills could be used for an off-reservation casino.

The Wisconsin Oneidas part of a 250,000-acre land claim in New York. Like others currently based out-of-state, they are re-establishing their presence in New York but the New York Oneidas are opposing those efforts.
