Santee Sioux Tribe discusses dispute over fossil
Monday, November 17, 2003

The Santee Sioux Tribe and the University of Nebraska State Museum met on Friday to discuss the status of a dinosaur fossil.

The tribe claims the fossil, of a 70 billion-year-old plesiosaur, was found on tribal land. But the museum says it was on former reservation.

The tribe doesn't want to take possession of the fossil. It wants the school to acknowledge the tribe's claim to the public. The museum has agreed to take down a web page about the find pending resolution.
