Trust beneficiaries underpaid $2M in royalties
Thursday, November 6, 2003

Individual Indian and tribal beneficiaries were underpaid $2 million in royalties in 2001, the Minerals Management Service announced on Wednesday.

MMS discovered the discrepancy during an annual compliance audit of oil and gas leases. The companies who underpaid were not identified, nor were the landowners who did not receive all their money.

A audit of 2000 activity found $1.6 million in underpaid oil and gas royalties on Indian lands.
