Oglala Sioux Tribe promotes importance of bison

The Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota is holding the Pte Waste (Good Bison) Festival at the Oglala Lakota College on Thursday.

The festival will bring together ranchers, producers and tribal elders with college-agricultural students. The tribe is promoting its long-term goal of preserving bison herds.

The tribe's herd is 700 strong. Its bison program has been operating for 30 years.
