Calif. county loses challenge to tribe's recognition
Tuesday, November 4, 2003

A federal judge in California has dismissed part of a lawsuit involving the Shingle Springs Rancheria.

U.S. District Judge Garland E. Burrell said El Dorado County waited too long to challenge the federal recognition of the tribe. The tribe's status was finalized in 1979.

El Dorado County is fighting the tribe's plans to build a highway for a casino. That part of the case is still pending.
