Tribes lobby for bill with more child welfare funds
Wednesday, October 29, 2003

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee is taking up the Indian Child Protection and Family Reauthorization Act of 2003 at a business meeting today.

Tribal leaders support the bill, which strengthens reporting of child abuse and family violence incidences and seeks to reduce them. But tribes also want more funds to protect Indian children.

The Senate committee held a hearing on the bill on September 24.
