Native youth combine tradition and technology
Friday, October 24, 2003

Youth from the Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Arizona are using a new computer lab to bring technology and tradition together.

The Intel Computer Clubhouse is the first in southern Arizona. Open to tribal and all other youth, it teaches them interpersonal and leadership skills. Participants are already creating multimedia presentations about their culture and are planning a Yaqui language project.

The clubhouse is funded for for three years by a $50,000 grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and a $10,000 grant from Intel Corp. Companies have donated $300,000 worth of software and hardware.
