Navajo Nation ordered to return seized property
Tuesday, October 21, 2003

A Navajo Nation court has ordered the tribe to return property it seized from a former council delegate, The Farmington Daily Times reports.

The court also ordered the tribe to explain why it should not be fined for depriving J.C. Begay and his family of their property. Four Navajo Nation representatives were warned they might be held in contempt for refusing to return items to the Begay family.

Begay was the subject of a cattle rustling accusations but was never charged by the tribe nor the state of New Mexico. He said the campaign was politically motivated.
