Computer store runs ads poking fun at 'Indians'
Friday, October 17, 2003

Some Indian leaders in Utah are offended with a computer store's ads proclaiming the extinction of the 'Shiffer Indians."

According to The Salt Lake Tribune, a character in the ad says the Indians the died out because they were stupid. So people who don't buy computers from the store have "Shiffer brains."

The ad is run by Dell "SuperDell" Schanze, owner of the Totally Awesome computer store. He admits the ad is "juvenile" but that "I have nothing against Indians."

But Forrest Cuch, executive director of the Utah Division of Indian Affairs, and some tribal said the ad is not a joke. Cuch wanted to meet with Schanze to discuss the issue, but Schanze apparently declined. They have instead exchanged several e-mails.

Schanze is known for his grating presence, spiked hair and "munchkin" voice, according to The Tribune. He has inspired an anti-Superdell website called "Superdell Sucks."
