Study: Welsh ancestors linked to first Americans
Friday, October 10, 2003

A new book claims the first inhabitants of Britain are related to the Basques, the Irish and Scots Gaelic, a tribe in Siberia and the first Americans.

In "Y - The Descent Of Man," Welsh geneticist Steve Jones links Welsh ancestors to Siberia. Jones studied the Y-chromosome, which is passed from father to son, and found a clear relation.

Jones also says the original Welsh were the victims of ethnic cleansing. Unlike the Basques, who kept their indigenous language, the Welsh adopted a new language.
