Eastern Cherokee students learn money management
Friday, October 10, 2003

Students on the Eastern Cherokee Reservation in North Carolina are learning how to manage their money.

Tribal members start to receive their share of casino revenues when they turn 18 and graduate from high school. According to The Asheville Citizen-Times, the first payment is as much as $30,000. Additional per capita payments follow every year.

To help deal with the windfall, Junior Achievement of Western North Carolina and First Citizens Bank teaches financial literacy skills to seventh- and eighth-graders.
