Lumbee singer took flak for redoing 'sacred' song
Friday, October 3, 2003

Jana, a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, says she was criticized for remaking Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" as a dance number.

"A lot of people were like, 'I can't believe you did that, it's a sacred song.' But I just did my own interpretation," Jana told The Albuquerque Journal.

Jana says her first full-length album will be released sometime next year. She says it has a world music feel with Arabic, Latin and other influences.
