Conference promotes tribal tourism opportunities
Tuesday, September 30, 2003

Tribes in Arizona are being encouraged to explore opportunities for tourism at a conference being held on the Ak-Chin Reservation.

"Spotlight on Native America-Southwest" brings together the state's 21 tribes with tour and travel operators and others in the Indian tourism industry. Tribal representatives say tourism can create jobs, economic development and cultural understanding.

State officials say Arizona's rich Indian history is a draw for tourists, who spent $12 billion last year.
