Calif. tribe threatens to disenroll dissidents
Monday, September 29, 2003

Leaders of the Estom Yumeka Maidu Tribe have suspended about 70 tribal members, including the vice-chair, for signing a recall petition.

Vice Chair Robert Edwards and the other tribal members received the disenrollment letter on September 10. They are accusing of undermining the tribal council and are supposed to go before a disenrollment hearing on November 13.

Until the hearing, the suspended tribal members can't vote, cutting short the recall effort.
