Penobscot Nation wants to import prescription drugs

The Penobscot Nation of Maine is asking for a $200,000 grant to study whether it is safe to import prescription drugs from Canada.

The tribe wants approval from the Department of Health and Human Services to move forward with an import program. Prescription drugs are cheaper in Canada thanks to government regulation and a favorable exchange rate.

A business on the Seneca Reservation in New York imports cheap drugs from Canada.
