Poll shows Winnipeg divided on urban reserve
Tuesday, September 16, 2003

A poll by Western Opinion Research found that residents of Winnipeg, Manitoba, are divided about the possibility of an urban reserve in the city.

Winnipeg Mayor Glen Murray is suggesting the reserve as a way to combat problems facing Aboriginals. The overwhelming majority of poll respondents, 78 percent, agree there are "serious" economic and social problems for Aboriginals.

But only 31 percent support the reserve, while 36 percent oppose it. Another third didn't know enough about the idea and 62 percent said they were unfamiliar in general with the urban reserve concept.
