Janklow to appear in court on manslaughter charges

Rep. Bill Janklow (R), former governor of South Dakota, will make his first court appearance today for an August 16 accident that killed a motorcyclist.

Janklow has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and three misdemeanors, including reckless driving and speeding. He was driving over the speed limit when his car hit and killed Randy E. Scott.

Janklow faces 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted of manslaughter, a felony. He does not plan to resign from Congress while his case proceeds.
