A 17-year old girl is in critical condition after being shot on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

The girl was shot in the stomach as Oglala tribal police responded to a report of shots being fired at a housing area. A tribal officer returned fire, killing the apparent assailant Alex DeSersa, 22.
