N.M. tribe first in state with language teaching agreement

The Jicarilla Apache Nation is the first tribe in New Mexico to sign a language teaching agreement with the state.

The memorandum of understanding will allow Jicarilla speakers to teach in classrooms without a college degree. The tribe's teachers will receive a Certification in Native Language and Culture from the state Board of Education.
