Oneida Nation buys land in tribe's land claim area

The Oneida Nation of New York has purchased 440 acres in another tribe's land claim area, The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.

The tribe paid $393,000 for land claimed by the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans of Wisconsin. Stockbridge-Munsee chairman Robert Chicks said the purchase by the Oneida Nation was "a little discouraging."

The Stockbridge-Munsee Tribe wants to open a casino on ancestral land in New York.
