Team uncovers ancestral Lenni Lenape site
Tuesday, August 26, 2003

A team of archaeologists is excavating a 10,000-year-old ancestral Lenni Lenape village underwater off the New Jersey shore.

The team has been spending the summer examining the site. It was discovered when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dredged the area and artifacts began washing ashore.

The Lenni Lenape, or Delaware, lived in what is now New Jersey before being removed to Oklahoma.
