Navajo Nation homes to get telephone service
Tuesday, August 19, 2003

An agreement will speed the installation of telephone service for homes on the Navajo Nation.

The tribe, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Qwest signed the agreement. It allows Qwest to start work on phone lines before rights-of-way negotiations on tribal land are complete.

Nearly 70 percent of Navajo Nation homes lack telephone service, according to federal statistics.
