Alaska village votes to keep ban on alcohol
Thursday, August 14, 2003

Voters in the Yupi'k village of St. Michael, Alaska, rejected by a 2-1 margin a proposal that would have lifted a prohibition on the possession of alcohol.

The village has been dry for nearly 20 years. Alcohol was reintroduced for a short time in 1986 but residents quickly reinstated the ban.
