Bison tested with contraceptives near Yellowstone
Wednesday, August 13, 2003

A Department of Agriculture agency has been testing contraceptive vaccines at a ranch near Yellowstone National Park.

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service says the tests are an effort to prevent the transmission of brucellosis from bison to cattle. But the National Park Service, part of the Department of Interior, says it was never informed of the operation.

An environmental group has filed Freedom of Information Act request to learn more about the facility, saying the agency kept its plans secret.
