Alaska tribe starts water-bottling operation
Tuesday, August 12, 2003

The Metlakatla Tribe of Alaska opened a water-bottling plant this spring and is getting ready to ramp up operations.

The 5,000-square-foot facility was built with a $500,000 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Expected to employ upwards of 20 people, it is capable of producing 3,000 bottles per hour.

The Metlakatla Reservation is the only Native-owned land in Alaska considered a reservation.
