Native population on the rise
If you haven't been paying attention, the Census Bureau
has been out in full force this year, pushing to get
every Native American and Alaska Native counted on
the 2000 census.
As they prepare to crunch all the data they've collected,
the Bureau has released its population estimates for
the last decade. Not surprisingly, the population of
the entire United States has increased, so naturally
the Native population has risen as well.
The top state in terms of population is still California.
In terms of percentage, the top state is Alaska. All
in all, the population of Native Americans and
Alaska Natives is a reported 2.3 million.

SAT scores on the rise
As students all across the country prepare to enter
college or return to campus this fall, one of the
testing organizations responsible for many a sleepless
night says the new class of freshman is smarter and has the
test scores to prove it.
After declining for years, test scores on the SAT
are beginning to rise. The scores of Native students,
depending on the state, vary just as widely as the
Census data.
On the whole, however, the scores of Native students
throughout the US are lower than the national average.
