The Santa Rosa Band of Cahuilla Indians in southern California has a new leader.

Steven Estrada, 30, took office as chairman on January 10, The Anza Valley Outlook reported. He has served on the tribal council for nine years, most recently as secretary.

Estrada succeeds John Marcus, who served as chairman for most of the past decade. The Outlook did not report on his current position.

Last April, the Red Crow Cannabis, a Native-owned company, said it was working with the tribe to grow marijuana on the reservation. Not much has been reported on the project since then.
