The First Nations Development Institute awarded $180,000 in grants to two tribal colleges.

The Northwest Indian College in Washington received $90,000. The money will be used for Financial Wellness for Families, a program that help students with children achieve self-sufficiency and higher educational attainment.

Another $90,000 went to the Chief Dull Knife College in Montana. The Financially Savvy Families Empowerment Program will use the grant to help students with families improve their financial management skills.

"Family economic security is key to creating the conditions that help children become successful in learning, school and life,” Lisa Yellow Eagle, FNDI's program officer for the Native Family Empowerment Program, said in a press release. “We are honored to work with these two innovative tribal colleges to help them serve parents and families."

FNDI's Native Family Empowerment Program is funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
