The Tule River Tribe of California dedicated its $16 million justice center on Wednesday.

The 43,600 square-foot Tule River Justice Center houses the tribe's public safety department, legal department, planning and development department, Indian Child Welfare Act department, workforce investment department, youth outreach program and the fire chief. It also also functions as a federal courthouse -- a traveling judge will hear civil disputes there.

“This is here to provide a fair and equal justice system for our people,” Vice Chairman Ryan Garfield said at the dedication, The Porterville Recorder reported.

The tribe is in the process of establishing its court system, which also will be housed in the building.
