Audio from Senate Indian Affairs Committee's education hearing

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee held a hearing this afternoon on education.

This hearing focused on public schools. Nearly 93 percent of American Indian and Alaska Native students attend schools in the public system, Bill Mendoza of the White House Initiative on American Indian and Alaska Native Education at the Department of Education told the committee.

The hearing lasted about an 1 hour and 12 minutes. It likely would have gone longer but Sen. Jon Tester (D-Montana), the chairman of the committee, had to cut it short due to votes on the Senate floor.
