Some leaders of Lac du Flambeau Band haven't taken drug test

Some leaders of the Lac du Flambeau Tribe of Wisconsin haven't taken a drug test, President Tom Maulson said.

Eight council members -- out of 12 -- have taken the test. "We need to have the tribal council do the right thing for all of the people," Maulson told The Lakeland Times.

Tribal employees are required to submit to drug testing. Recently two workers in the enrollment office refused and were fired.

But the tribal council intervened and reinstated the two employees. A drug-sniffing dog had found potential evidence of drugs in their office.

“What does it say to other tribal members when two employees can go back on the job after refusing a drug test that tribal law says they must take and which calls for termination if they refuse?” Maulson told the paper.

According to the paper, newly elected council member Ruben Santiesteban was arrested last weekend on a drunk driving charge, former council member Joseph G. Wildcat has a record of drunk driving-related charges and longtime council member Jerome “Brooks” BigJohn was recently sentenced on drunk driving-related charges.
