Trial delayed for man accused of murdering Spirit Lake children

The trial for a man accused of murdering two children on the Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation in North Dakota has been delayed several months.

Valentino “Tino” James Bagola was due to go to trial later this month. But federal prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed to a delay until April 2013, The Grand Forks Herald reported.

“The complexity of a murder case like that dictates a continuance,” federal prosecutor Chris Myers told the paper.

Destiny Jane Shaw-DuBois, 9, and Travis Lee DuBois Jr, 6, were found dead on the reservation in May 2011. The children, whose mother is a tribal member, were killed in their father's home.

Bagola faces murder, sexual abuse and child abuse charges.
