RAPID CITY –– Tow Pros, a towing company based in Rapid City, refuses to travel to the Pine Ridge Reservation at night as part of a standard, unwritten policy.

Local car rental agencies and some of their Native American and non-Native American customers have reported to Native Sun News that they were told by the towing company’s employees Tow Pros wouldn’t travel to certain locations, including the Pine Ridge Reservation, during nighttime hours.

However, according to Tow Pros’ website, they will “tow anything, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day!”

Tow Pros’ manager, Jeremy – who declined to divulge his last name – told Native Sun News that it’s not part of their official policy, but they won’t travel to remote places like the Pine Ridge Reservation and the area north of Custer at night for “safety reasons.” He said that deer on the roads at night is the main concern.

He also said that this unwritten rule does not affect their business at all.

The northwestern corner of the Pine Ridge Reservation is approximately 90 miles from Rapid City, just over an hour’s drive away.

Tow Pros has been in business since June of 2000 and is owned and operated by Marty Jacob and his family. The towing service is located at 1711 East Centre St. in Rapid City.
