Quechan Nation files suit against wind farm project in California

The Quechan Nation lost a motion to halt construction of a wind farm in southern California but the tribe said it will continue to fight for a preliminary injunction.

The tribe sued the Interior Department for approving a right-of-way for the project, which is located on public land. The tribe is worried about the destruction of burial grounds and archaeological resources at the site of the Pattern Energy project.

"They’re out there with bulldozers and graders," a tribal attorney said in court last week, The East County Magazine reported.

The Bureau of Land Management authorized construction of the Ocotillo Wind Energy Facility earlier this month.
