First Nations request inquiry into deaths of students in Ontario

The Nishnabe Aski Nation, which represents 49 First Nations, is seeking an inquiry into the deaths of seven students in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

The teens died while attending school away from their reserves. The most recent death occurred about a year ago.

"I want to get answers to what happened to the seven youth that have perished over the last number of years," NAN Deputy Grand Chief Terry Waboose told CBC News.

The first reported death occurred in November 2000. Five cases were reported to be alcohol-related.
