Passamaquoddy Tribe issues large number of fishing licenses





The Passamaquoddy Tribe of Maine issued 236 licenses for elver fishing this year, a record amid high prices for the juvenile eels.

Elver fish are going for $2,000 a pound. Demand is coming from Asian countries, The Bangor Daily News reported.

Last year, the tribe only issued two elver licenses.
