Derek Bailey, Grand Traverse chairman, ends US House bid

Derek Bailey, the chairman of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, has ended his campaign for Michigan's 1st Congressional District.

Bailey was seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat. But he said he couldn't compete with his opponents, who have raised far more cash during the campaign.

“The race was not winnable at this point," Bailey told the Native News Network. "There was no way my campaign could compete with the dollars that my opponent did,”

Bailey, however, is turning his sights toward the Michigan Legislature. He will seek the Democratic nomination for House District 101.
