Two council members for Isleta Pueblo removed from office

Two council members from Isleta Pueblo in New Mexico have been removed from office.

ReGina Zuni and Diane Peigler were removed by the council by a vote of 8-2. The women were presented with the charges barely a day before the hearing, and Piegler was denied more time to prepare.

"The Isleta Tribal Council gave me a total of 26 pages of documents/exhibits and gave me 27 hours to prepare for the 'due process hearing,'" Piegler said on her blog.

Other tribal leaders previously secured a restraining order against Zuni and Peigler, accusing them of being disruptive. They were ordered to "cease malicious and slanderous content from social media, including blogs and Facebook," The Valencia County News-Bulletin reported.
