Navajo Nation sues Urban Outfitters over 'Navajo' products

The Navajo Nation has sued Urban Outfitters over a slew of "Navajo" products that drew widespread controversy last year.

The tribe sent a cease and desist letter to the company last June after learning about items like the "Navajo Hipster Panty" and the "Navajo Print Fabric Wrapped Flask." Urban Outfitters renamed the products on its website but the lawsuit claims they are still available through catalogs and other retail outlets.

"The fame or reputation of the Navajo name and marks is such that, when defendant uses the 'Navajo' and 'Navaho' marks with its goods and services, a connection with the Navajo Nation is falsely presumed," the lawsuit states, the Associated Press reports.

The tribe holds at least 10 trademarks to the "Navajo" name.
