Tribes in Minnesota shift campaign donations to Republicans

Tribes are shifting their campaign donations to Republicans, Politics in Minnesota reported.

The GOP took over the state Legislature in 2010. Since then, tribes have increased the percentage of their contributions to Republicans.

In 2011, Republicans received $152,150 from tribes. That's about the same as the $176,200 that went to Democrats.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, one of the more active tribes, donated $33,100 to Republicans in 2011. That's a big increase from the $100 the went to one GOP lawmaker in 2009.
