One dead after Native protest against mining law in Panama

One man was killed as police in Panama broke up a tribal protest on the Pan-American highway.

Members of the Ngobe-Bugle Tribe erected blockades in the highway in protest of mining and development projects in their territory. The protest caused massive traffic jams, the Associated Press reported.

Police came in on Sunday to clear up the blockades. A 26-year-old Native man was killed and as many as 39 were injured.
