United Auburn Indian Community sees big turnout for vote

The United Auburn Indian Community of California said 77 percent of eligible voters participated in its tribal council election.

Incumbents Kim Rey Dubac, the vice chairwoman, and treasurer Brenda Conway won re-election. They defeated Jessica Tavares and Dolly Suehead, who have been critical of the sitting council.

“It was a clear victory and the numbers speak for themselves," spokesperson Doug Elmets told The Roseville Press-Tribune.

Tavares, a former chairwoman, and Suehead, a former council member, weren't able to cast votes in person because they have been banished from the reservation. They could have requested absentee ballots, the spokesperson said.
