The leader of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona has been stripped of certain administrative duties.

Chairman Leroy Shingoitewa was in Washington, D.C., for the White House Tribal Nations Conference when the Hopi council took action. The council passed a resolution that handed control over 10 major areas to Vice Chairman Herman Honanie, who presided over the meeting.

During the meeting, the tribe also passed a resolution terminating attorney Robert Lyttle, effective December 31.
